The U14 Guilberley (Guildford RFC & Camberley RFC) played this Sunday at a 20 team tournament at Guilfordians RFC.
First up was Ealing Trailfinders. The coaches asked for a strong start and that’s what they got. Tries from multiple players following solid rucking and smart half back play, resulted in a comfortable win 30-5.
Next was Dorking who we lost to earlier this season – two tries early on from a dominant Guilberley to lead the game at half time. An injury to a Dorking player cut the game short, resulting in a win 10-0
Game three against Tonbridge Juddians, was expected to be the toughest game in the pool. A strong start from Guillberley had TJs on their line but they failed to convert on 2 occasions due to their strong defensive play, then TJs had two breakaway tries before half time. Second half Guilberley battled hard, not giving up despite three more tries against them, with Taylah scoring the final try of the game. Final score 5-25
Last game of the pool was against Twickenham, special mention to Emilia who stepped up to play for Twickenham for the whole tournament as they were short of players, this was a comfortable win for Guilberly with the highlight being the chip and chase worked by Amberley to put Phoebe in for a try. Final score 25-10.
This gave us second place in the pool with a Plate Semi Final against Hove, who we played 2 weeks ago at Chobham. A very well-matched game saw a gritty performance from Guilberley with a single try winning the game from Lily B who crashed over the line. Final score 5-0
A final with Barnes stood between Guilberley and the Plate. Guilberley scored first with an equaliser from Barnes giving a 5-5 score at halftime. Barnes went ahead on the restart with Guilberley coming back to make it 10-10 with only a few minutes to go. Guilberley went ahead by 5 and held on with great defensive play to emerge the Plate winners.
Tries scored on the day: Evie, Lily F, Lily B, Amberley, Sophia B, Sophia P, Taylah, Mimi, Phoebe, Darcey
A complete squad effort with everyone playing their part. Wonderful team spirit throughout. A great start to the 24/25 season. Go Guilberley!
