We have seen U14 Guilberley (Camberley and Guildford) team travel to unbeaten Havant and with some great team work they came away with a 17-12 win! The girls are really starting to form strong bonds and are looking like quite a formidable side with the Waterfall Cup around the corner.
Our U12 have been busy making new connections with Dorking as new members of the Guilberley cluster, forming Dorkfordley .... name to be worked on!
And finally our U9 /10 have been to Weybridge girls' festival which saw over 240 girls coming together to celebrate girls' rugby. They had an amazing time and enjoyed being amongst so many like-minded girls.
Last night we welcomed the England Red Rose Alex Mathews back to Camberley for an evening with our girls section. Alex spent time with the girls helping to develops their skills at the breakdown and then enjoyed a game of touch with them. Everyone at Camberley is incredibly proud of Alex and it's such an honour to have her come to our club and be so involved in our girls section.
U14 Match Report
Havant 12 - Guilberley 17
Last Sunday saw us travel to the unbeaten Havant where last season the U14's were beaten convincingly by a team always well drilled, well coached and physical in all aspects of the game.
However, this 2024 Guilberley team are on a roll and started strongly, regaining possession from their own kick off owing to a great kick, chase and intensity at the break down. This start was then, quite simply, maintained for the majority of the match with Havant only crossing our line twice in the last few minutes with the game won.
In attack, we saw it all. The first try was a set piece strike move with Lily F running a brilliant line off a scrum in our own half, showing pace and power to run half the length and dot over under the posts. The second, the coach's favorite had Guilberley go through multiple phases working their way up the field with clean, aggressive ruck speed and excellent hands before Amberley called the back line to her left, dragging the remaining defenders with her, only to have tipped off Stella she was going blind, throwing a cracking 15m pass off her left hand to allow the winger to run unopposed to the right corner. 0 - 12 at H/T.
The second half saw a number of our newer members take to the field and encouragingly, no drop-off in skill or intensity demonstrating the strength in depth across the squad being developed. In fact, the girls then decided, it appeared, to show their credentials for next summer's 7's circuit with chip kicks, no look passes and numerous off loads out the back of the hand. The last of these came from Sophia B to Maya on a brilliant support line allowing the loose head to score the third try of the afternoon and open up a 17 point lead. The incredible defence up until this point meant with less than 10 minutes left, it very much felt job done however massive credit to our hosts who never gave up and the two-consolation tries were well deserved.
Big Thanks to Katie, Dan and the team at Havant for their hard work and hospitality.
